About Santana

Carlos Santana started Santana in San Francisco in 1966. Santana is a popular rock band. Carlos Santana is the sole constant member of the band despite studio and live lineup changes. Santana’s first three albums, Santana (1969), Abraxas (1970), and Santana III, were successful. 1969 was Santana’s Woodstock debut (1971). Gregg Rolie, Michael Carabello, Michael Shrieve, David Brown, and José “Chepito” Areas are other “classic” members.

A post shared by Carlos Santana (@carlossantana) Santana delved into jazz fusion with Carvanserai (1972), Welcome (1973), and Borboletta (1975). Santana’s 1999 album Supernatural includes the hits “Smooth” by Rob Thomas and “Maria Maria” by The Product G&B. The album sold 12 million copies in the U.S., where it was number one in 12 nations. Santana continued to perform live and produce new music after reforming their “original” lineup in 2014 for Santana IV (2016). Santana has sold more than 47 million certified records in the U.S. and an estimated 100 million copies globally. 14 of their 25 studio albums achieved number one in the U.S. Santana was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 with Rolie, Carabello, Shrieve, Brown, and Areas. In 2000, the band tied Michael Jackson for most Grammys won in one night with six. Three Latin Grammys followed.
